General Information and Terminology

  • OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer or, simply "car manufacturer"
(i.e. General Motors, Ford Motor Company, FCA, Toyota Motors Corporation)

  • Make = Brand of the vehicle (Mazda, Lexus, Chevrolet)

  • Model = Name of the vehicle. (Camry, Accord, Explorer, Civic)

  • Sub-model = Secondary name of main model (Limited, SE, GT)
Manufacturer Make/Brand Model Sub Model
Toyota Motor Corp. Toyota Camry LE, SE, XSE, XLE, etc.
FCA US LLC Jeep Cherokee Sport, Latitude, Trailhawk, Limited

Tips to Avoid "Missing" Supported Models

If you believe a vehicle may be supported and the badge on the vehicle is not listed in the CDR help File, try looking at the other areas of the vehicle:

  • Emblems on the lower front fenders
  • Emblems on the steering wheel, floor mats or dash
  • Owners manual

Bosch does not include all of the sub-models in the Help File coverage list although some sub-models may be listed if it is associated with a variant of the normally installed Airbag Control Module (ACM).

Bosch takes all reasonable actions to ensure the CDR product supports all vehicles listed in this and other CDR product documentation. However, there may be some vehicles listed that the CDR system is unable to retrieve EDR data from. This may be caused by (but not limited to) information that was not available to Bosch at the time the product was developed or, EDR retrieval may be available only on vehicles with particular options.

Vehicle Population

There are approximately 160 million registered vehicles in the US and Canada. Of those, approximately 54% are currently supported by the Bosch CDR Tool.

The last study completed (January 2017) showed the following market coverage for selected OEMs. These numbers are continually growing as new vehicles are introduced each year and older, non-supported vehicles are leaving the market.

OEM % of Registered Vehicles Supported by CDR OEM % of Registered Vehicles Supported by CDR
General Motors 85% Honda 31%
Toyota Motors Corp. 77% Nissan 34%
Ford Motor Co. 59% Mazda 34%
FCA 51% BMW 28%
Volvo 17% Maserati 59%
